BlackBerry debuts on Treo 650

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) on Wednesday became the first operator in the world to offer access to the BlackBerry e-mail service for Treo 650 smart phone users, according to Research In Motion (RIM).

The BlackBerry Connect technology allows Treo 650 users to access the BlackBerry push e-mail service and BlackBerry Enterprise Server without requiring a dedicated device.

SingTel customers are the first to get access to BlackBerry Connect for the Treo 650. Plans are in the works to roll out BlackBerry Connect for the Treo 650 in other market, according to Katie Lee, a spokeswoman for RIM. However, no timeframe has been set for these launches, she said.

The Treo 650 is available to SingTel business customers for S$299 (US$185) with a subscription to the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution Unlimited Local Data Usage Plan, which costs S$61.95 per month.
